MARE FORUM SHIPFINANCE
2006

SHIPOWNERS VERSUS CAPITAL PROVIDERS

"shipping in context"
Exploring the Risks and Rewards

A lively debate between Shipowners and Capital Providers

Thursday 19 OCTOBER 2006
The Grand Hotel

AMSTERDAM - THE NETHERLANDS

INTRODUCTION

Without shipping, half the world would freeze and the other half would be hungry. We all know that. But being the catalyst of the world economy is a two-edged sword. It makes shipping vulnerable to swings in the world economy. When the boom comes, shipowners serving that sector get rich, quickly. When the crash comes, they crash too.

Swings in demand drive shipping fortunes, but shipping itself cannot control demand. So any investment in shipping is at the mercy of factors no shipowner can control. Get the timing right, and a global crisis can make you rich, as it did for so many big names in the tanker industry.

At this unique ship finance conference, specifically for shipowners and those who fund them, major international figures will put shipping into context. They will map out where global tensions are building to a conflict, and where crises are likely and what are the effects in shipping. They will measure the shipping markets against that background, and then ask where to invest their money with a better and safer return.

This is not a display case for bankers with clever tricks. It is a serious forum where serious investors and owners can face up to the fundamental forces which affect their wealth.

The Mare Forum Tango Shipfinance conference has become an annual major discussion forum for leading shipowners. This year the discussion will challenge their world views, and shake the perceptions of lenders.

Come and ask where the clever money will go next, and where the sensible money will stay.

We look forward to welcoming you in Amsterdam,
