An increasing
number of shipowners are facing the rising costs of capital in combination
with escalating difficulties in financing their investments. Many banks are
abandoning the ship finance scene, while the few who have remained are
raising their lending and pricing requirements. The capital markets are also almost entirely closed to shipping
companies.
Mare Forum, NIB Capital Bank and AON Marine Energy & Construction Insurance
Brokers have taken up the initiative to organise a ship finance conference in Amsterdam
on October 31st 2001, as a follow-on
conference to Mare Forum 2001: Corporate Governance in Shipping: The Human Factor (October 29th &
30th). This conference will
address and debate all these developments and the ensuing consequences in the
international ship finance sector.
Marine Investments
Financing Forum 2001: What is the
Price of Money in Shipping Today? will stand apart from other financing seminars
through its format, content and through the level and degree of interactivity
between the participants. Like all Mare Forum conferences, the ultimate goal
of the conference is to provide a
true forum where all participants are invited to take part in the discussion
periods after every panel of high profile speakers has spoken directly to the
issues.
