 MARE FORUM Investments 2007

Where can you get the best from your cash?

And what risks must you run?

Thursday 31 May 2007

Astir Palace Hotel

Athens - Vouliagmeni - Greece

INTRODUCTION

Shipping is the catalyst of world trade, and with booming trade for the last five years, shipping has been booming too. We all know that. But being the willing servant of the world economy is a two-edged sword. It makes shipping vulnerable to swings in the world economy. When the boom comes, shipowners serving that sector get rich. When the crash comes, they crash too.
Shipping cannot control demand, so any investment in shipping is at the mercy of factors no shipowner can control. Get the timing right, and a global crisis can make you rich, as it did for so many big names in the tanker industry. But many of those big names have moved their money out of shipping, and the recent good times have sucked new money in.

Should you follow Niarchos and move your money out of shipping? Are there other sectors which can give you a better return with less risk?

At this unique investments conference, specifically for shipowners and those who fund them, major international figures will map out the shipping markets in a global context, and seek to anticipate the crises which could make shipowners either suddenly rich, or suddenly poor.

They will measure the shipping markets against that background, and then ask if other sectors as real estate, aviation, tourism, private banking, luxury and collectors items, bio-energy, bio-technology, hedge funds etc. can offer a better and safer return.

This is not a display case for capital providers with clever tricks. It is a serious forum where serious investors can face up to the fundamental forces which affect their wealth.

The Mare Forum conferences are a major discussion forum for leading shipowners. The discussion at this Athens gathering will challenge their world views, and shake the perceptions of lenders.

Come and ask where the clever money will go next,
and where the sensible money will stay.
